Sir Michael Lyons appointed to the role of Chair of the New Towns Taskforce

Congratulations to Sir Michael Lyons, non-executive Chairman of the SQW Group, on his appointment to the role of Chair of the New Towns Taskforce as announced today by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

With wide experience of urban regeneration, Sir Michael will spearhead this new independent taskforce, which will facilitate the development of large-scale new communities, as part of the government’s drive to deliver hundreds of thousands more affordable homes in the UK. This new taskforce will work closely with local leaders and their communities as well as the wider development and investment sectors to make sure the new towns are built in the right places.

Knighted for services to local government in 2000, Sir Michael has had an extensive career in local government, which has included 17 years as chief executive of three major UK local authorities as well as non-executive Chair of the English Cities Fund. In addition, he previously chaired the Lyons Housing review (2014), which set out how the UK could boost housing supply.
